The controls are naturally similar to the other Need for Speed: Undercover game that’s been available on Windows Phone for a while now. Waze is one of my favorite navigation apps. It’s available for both Android and iOS, and unlike other GPS Navigation apps, it learns. Based on your driving habits and patterns Waze figures out not only where you are, but where you’re going — and automatically routes you there! When you get get in your car and open the app in the morning, Waze asks you if you’re going to work. At the end of the day Waze figures you’re heading home and routes you accordingly. That’s cool and all, but it’s not where Waze really stands out. Waze not only learns from you, it learns from others who use the app: “Wazers”. The more people that drive the roads (with the app open, of course), the more information about those roads is collected. If there’s a slow-down, Waze knows from the Wazers stuck in the middle of it and can route other Wazers around the problem — automatically. All that happens behind the scenes. Wazers who want to be pro-active and “social” can take a more hands-on approach: they can report things they see as they’re driving. If there is a wreck, a police trap, a vehicle on the side of the road, a construction zone, or even inclement weather, you can report it and let other Wazers know. YouTube HTML5 Bug and Workaround

Some of you have been frustrated when trying to watch the YouTube videos embedded in Pocketnow articles on a mobile device. We’ve been investigating this problem and it turns out that it only happens with YouTube videos that have revenue sharing turned on. YouTube’s iFrame embed code is supposed to be able to detect the user’s browser and feed them a video in an appropriate format. On Windows Phone 7 and iOS 5, YouTube’s code doesn’t send the correct type of video. We’ve talked to the IE mobile for Windows Phone team and they’ve found that YouTube’s embed code tries to send a Flash-based video with advertisements anyway even though it should be simple to detect that the user has a device that does not support Flash. Interestingly, YouTube has programmed their iFrame embed code to recognize the Android browser and feed a playable video to those pages without ads. The work around for you as a user is pretty simple. Zoom in a bit on the video and instead of tapping the play button on the video graphic, tap the title of the video on the top edge. On Windows Phone 7, this will open the video’s HTML5-based YouTube page (if you have your browser set to “mobile” view mode) which does correctly load an HTML5 video that plays perfectly in Windows Phone. On Apple iOS devices, you can do the same thing… just tap the title instead of the video’s play button and it will ask if you want to open the video in the YouTube app which will subsequently play the video perfectly.

This week’s new Xbox LIVE game for Windows Phone comes out tomorrow and it’s called “Fragger”. You have to throw your grenades so that they’ll explode and kill the enemies. Each level makes the task a little more difficult with various enemies hiding under bunkers or whatnot. You’ll have to aim your grenades to bounce into the right spot. The game will be available for .99 and of course a free trial will be available so you can decide before you buy. One special feature in the game is the ability to purchase in-game content using Microsoft Points. You can buy things like unlimited grenades or more “solution” videos that will show you how to solve a particular level. Windows Phone and Kinect to create “holographic” game engine

Another quick hack using the Kinect beta SDK and my new Windows Phone (which is great!). What you see is a simple game engine utilizing the pseudo-holographic effect from my other videos. A Kinect “sees” the position of the viewer and the 3D engine adjusts the image accordingly to give the illusion of a real 3D object. The 3D engine supports anaglyph 3D (red/cyan glasses) for a better effect in real life. A simple WP7 app controls the application and the helicopter using the accelerometers of the phone.
